Why does everyone make fun of my name, Clarice?

I had a teacher last year who said to me "Good evening, Clarice. Quid quo pro yes or no." And would always smirk at me. I had NO IDEA what he was talking about. He would say this to me all the time and it was beginning to freak me out a bit. I told my mom and she just laughed. I'm always hared about lambs? WTF? Why is this? I ask people why and they say "Your name is Clarice, that's why." Huh?
